Also, if you’re planning a road trip to Italy or Albanian, you should know that all Ventouris Ferries vessels accept cars. When booking, you need to make sure to do both outbound and inbound tickets at the same time, or the 20% discount for the return trip with vehicle won’t be valid.

Ventouris Ferries usually offers discounts for children. For instance, kids aged 4 to 11 already have a 50% discount for one way and return tickets. Furthermore, children up to 3 years old (who don’t occupy a bed) travel for free, and are charged only with a €15 port expense fee. Christmas and New Years Eve in Bari, Italy

With its mild winters and temperatures reaching up to 12°C, Bari is a great place to visit during the festive season. On the 6th of December the whole town lights up. You can witness the official start of Bari’s festive season as 100,000 LED lights illuminate the 14-meter Christmas tree on Piazza del Ferrarese. This is also the start of Christmas market, light installations and abundant festive program.

Enjoy the local Bari food, try out panzerotti (fried dough pockets filled with tomato sauce and melted mozzarella) or sgagliozze (crispy fried polenta squares). If you’re planning to stay to celebrate New Year, every year on Piazza Libertà there’s a free of charge concert with Italian artists, followed by DJ sets.

In case you’re not a fan of festive celebration, there’s still plenty for you to do in and around Bari. Bari is full of historical landmarks such as Basilica of Saint Nicholas from the 12th century. There’s even a Nicolaian Museum dedicated to Saint Nicholas and the basilica’s history. You can also check out Cathedral of Saint Sabinus.

Other than the religious architecture, you can explore Norman–Swabian Castle of Bari, Petruzzelli Theatre or Metropolitan Art Gallery of Bari “Corrado Giaquinto”. And if you’re planning a longer stay, don’t miss Polignano a Mare and Alberobello. While the first is a coastal town with beautiful cliffs, the second is a UNESCO World Heritage town known for its trulli houses.

Winter in Durres, Albania: What to do?

Since Albanians are mostly Muslims, Christmas is more of a cultural event, rather than a religious one. Durres is decorated with Christmas tree and lights, but the emphasizes is more on a New Year celebration. You can experience live music, local street food and fireworks.

However, there are still other things you can do during your winter visit to Durres. Amphitheatre of Durres from the 2nd century is open all year long. You can check the remains of the Roman amphitheater that once held over 20.000 people. There are also other historical landmarks you shouldn’t miss like the Byzantine Forum of Durres and Venetian Tower of Durres.

Durres is a great starting point if you want to explore Albania. Visit Tirana, capital of Albania, town Kruja, known for its ancient shopping bazaar, iconic castle, and Skanderbeg museum, or Cape of Rodon, ideal for nature lovers, all less than 50 kilometers away by car.
