3 INCREDIBLE SCUBA DIVING AND SNORKELLING DESTINATIONS IN ITALY

But which ones are the best? In this guide, we’re highlighting our three favourite scuba diving and snorkelling destinations in Italy. So, get your diving gear ready and grab your snorkel, then head to these three fantastic scuba diving and snorkelling spots.
Amalfi
No list is complete without a mention of the Amalfi Coast. Located on the west coast of Italy, Amalfi is one of the country’s top tourist destinations. With pastel-coloured houses hanging off the cliffside and fantastic islands, the Amalfi Coast offers charm in abundance.
It’s also a great place to go scuba diving and snorkelling. Head to the coastal town of Sorrento and take a plunge into the deep-blue waters to admire the sea urchins. Or make your way to Conca dei Marini and go snorkelling in the Emerald cave – otherwise known as Grotta dello Smeraldo. The Amalfi Coast isn’t far from the bay of Naples, and you can go on a day trip to discover this beautiful area of Italy, as well as places like Pompeii – the historic archaeological site in the Campania region.
Sicily
Sicily is the largest Mediterranean island and sees more than one million holidaymakers pass through each year to enjoy some sun and style. The island is full of history, rich culture and art. It’s also a popular place for scuba diving and snorkelling.
Take to the crystal clear waters and discover the delights of the ocean. It’s not uncommon to stumble upon ancient underwater ruins, such as shipwrecks from previous world wars. You will also be treated to black volcanic rock on this picture-perfect island. Whether you’re a beginner or pro, there are lessons and excursions available for your level. Alternatively, you can head into the waters for some scuba diving and snorkelling with your own equipment – though you should only do this if you have previous experience.
Sardinia
Relax and catch some rays before taking to the water for some scuba diving and snorkelling in Sardinia. The clarity of the water makes it easy to see the underwater life, and the many coves provide unique spots to examine below sea level further.
The islands of Quirra, Serpentara and Cavoli are all excellent destinations for scuba diving and snorkelling. Don’t be surprised if you come across a Roman shipwreck here too while you’re navigating the pristine waters. Away from the waters, Sardinia offers mountainous peaks, woodlands and even small desert areas. A trip to Sardinia is a real chance to get back to nature, both on land and sea with sweeping landscapes and tranquil waters.
