MARCH 2022 – UPCOMING EVENTS AROUND GREECE

Mark your calendars! There are lots of fun things happening around Greece during the month of March. Here are some of the most exciting upcoming events.

Skyros Goat Festival

First Week of March | Skyros

The Sporades island of Skyros continues this age-old tradition every year. The festival involves men wearing a furry black cape, a waist belt of goat bells, and a hanging goatskin to cover their faces. Also, women wear white and yellow to lead their way. They parade through the streets, starting from the castle at the top of the hill. It’s a unique carnival spectacle, unlike anything you’ve witnessed before. This celebration is not only about the coming of Lent but also the end of winter, and the mythological tales of Achilles who wore a disguise and used Skyros as his hiding place to avoid the Trojan war.

Tourism Job Day

March 4 | Athens & Thessaloniki

Popular job portal, Skywalker.gr is organizing a one-day career fair centered around the tourism industry, held simultaneously in Greece’s two largest cities.

Carnival Events

February 13 – March 7 | Syros

For the second year in a row, the ‘Georgios Souris’ carnival in Syros will have various celebratory events held online from mid-February until March 7. For more information, check here.

24th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival

March 10 – 20 | Thessaloniki

The 24th iteration of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival will be held in March for 10 days, offering attendees the experience of screening 233 full-length and short film documentaries. In case you aren’t able to make it, there will also be an opportunity to watch the films digitally here.

Boat & Fishing Show

March 10 – 13 | Paiania

The largest exhibition focused on fishing, boating, spearfishing, scuba, watersports, and sea tourism will take place for three consecutive days this month.

FOOD EXPO

March 12 – 14 | Athens

FOOD EXPO is an event that exhibits a large selection of food and beverage products. Here you will find everything from butchers and fishmongers, wine bars, liquor stores, coffee grinding shops, sweet shops, and much more!

Pan-Hellenic Drift Championship

March 12 – 13 | Chania, Crete

For two days this month, the 2022 Pan-Hellenic Drift Championship will take place at the Pistapark track in Chania on the island of Crete. This specially designed course is going to be open to the Pro, Pro 2, and Street Legal categories of racing. If you like fast cars and want to get your adrenaline pumping, this event is definitely for you.

Oenorama

March 12 – 14 | Athens

The most important Greek wine exhibition is Oenorama, happening for three days in Athens this month. It’s the perfect hub for wine consumers and wine professionals to come together. Although this event is all about Greek wine, the audience is made up of both locals and foreigners.

Celebration of Greek Independence Day

March 25 | Corfu

March 25 is a national day where the entire country commemorates the Greek Revolution of 1821 and celebrates Greece’s freedom from the Ottoman Empire. There will surely be events happening all over. The island of Corfu is an interesting place to be on this day because of the incredibly intricate and musical parade that takes place at 12:00.
