About CTN Ferries
CTN Ferries, officially Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation, has been a vital maritime link between Tunisia and Europe since its founding on March 7, 1959. From the start, its mission has been to support Tunisia’s economic development by establishing regular connections with key European trading partners. Initial routes focused on Marseille and Rouen, later expanding to include Belgium, Germany, Italy, and Spain as Tunisian foreign trade diversified.
Throughout the decades, CTN has grown into a leader in Mediterranean passenger and freight transport. In the 1970s, it expanded its operations to include coastal oil, crude, chemical, and food transport. The launch of the car ferry Habib in 1978 marked the start of regular passenger service between Tunis, Marseille, and Genoa. CTN embraced roll-on roll-off shipping, adding vessels like ElJem, Tozeur, Bizerte, and Kairouan to its northern fleet by the end of the decade.
In recent years, CTN has modernized its operations by phasing out older ships and investing in new, high-capacity vessels such as the Ulysse, Salammbô 7, and the flagship ferry Carthage, which can carry over 2,200 passengers and 660 vehicles. This modern vessel shares its name with the company’s first Tunisian-flagged ship, symbolizing both heritage and innovation.
Certified under ISM, ISPS, and ISO 9001 standards, CTN prioritizes safety, efficiency, and sustainability. With a strong focus on modernization and customer experience, the company continues to strengthen maritime links between North Africa and Europe, while meeting the evolving demands of the shipping industry.
