Fjord Line Pet Policy

Pets are welcome on Fjord Line vessels, with specific rules in place to ensure a safe and pleasant journey for everyone on board. Pet policies vary slightly depending on the ship and route, so it’s important to check in advance with our support team, when planning your trip.

  • Pets over 10 kg must be placed in a booked kennel (dog cage) on deck, available on MS Bergensfjord and MS Stavangerfjord. Sizes vary, and cages must be reserved in advance during the booking process (€13 each way).
  • Smaller pets under 10 kg may stay in a pet-friendly cabin if one is available. These cabins are limited and must be booked by phone in advance.
  • All dogs must be muzzled and kept on a leash while outside, including in designated outdoor dog areas such as the aft deck dog run on deck 10 (available on MS Bergensfjord and MS Stavangerfjord).
  • On Fjord FSTR (Kristiansand–Hirtshals), dogs can stay in the car and are allowed on the aft deck and lounge near the aft deck. There are no onboard kennels on this vessel.
  • Pets are not allowed in indoor public areas. Service and guide dogs are exempt from this rule.
  • A pet ticket is required for all pets. Please contact support if booking a kennel or cabin for your pet.
  • Passengers must bring their own food and water bowls, as well as anything else their pet needs during the trip. Crew do not supervise kennels or pet areas.

Travel Requirements

Before traveling, make sure your pet meets the entry requirements for the country you’re visiting. This typically includes:

  • Microchip identification
  • EU Pet Passport issued by a veterinarian
  • Valid rabies vaccination (at least 21 days before travel)
  • Tapeworm treatment 1–5 days before arrival in Norway (for dogs)
  • Dog liability insurance is required for entry into Denmark

Some dog breeds are restricted in Denmark. For the most accurate and up-to-date regulations, refer to the relevant food safety authority in Norway or Denmark.

As the pet owner, you are fully responsible for your animal’s welfare during the journey. Be sure to bring everything they need for a safe and comfortable trip.

Fjord Line Luggage Allowance

Fjord Line allows each passenger to bring up to 50 kg of luggage or half a cubic meter in volume at no extra charge. If you’re traveling by vehicle, your luggage can be stored in the car. Foot passengers may only carry what they can manage on their own when boarding, as porter services are not available.

Items such as furniture, boxes, or large goods are considered cargo and are subject to freight charges. For this type of transport, you’ll need to get in touch with our customer support team.

Traveling with dangerous goods? If you’re transporting gas cylinders or similar items in a private vehicle (such as a motorhome), they must be reported and handled according to safety regulations. This includes:

  • Mechanically disconnecting gas appliances
  • Carrying a valid gas certificate
  • Following the Danish Maritime Authority’s guidance on dangerous goods in private vehicles

When you book with us, you’ll always get clear info on what’s allowed, so you can pack with confidence and avoid any last-minute surprises.
