La Méridionale runs four well-kept vessels with comfortable interiors and open decks. For over ten years, it’s been improving its routes to Corsica and Morocco with reliable ships and greener practices.
About La Méridionale
Since 1931, La Méridionale has been more than a ferry operator. It is part of the maritime identity of Marseille. Founded by Henri and Félix Rastit, the company began as a small freight service and has grown into a trusted link between Marseille, Corsica, and Tangier. Today, it operates four vessels that carry both passengers and freight, playing a key role in maintaining territorial continuity between the islands and mainland France.
Customer satisfaction is central to the company’s approach. It constantly adapts its services based on feedback, with 91 percent of passengers reporting satisfaction in 2024 and seven consecutive Travellers’ Choice awards highlighting this dedication.
La Méridionale is also a leader in environmental responsibility. It was the first shipping company to equip its fleet with the REPCET system for monitoring cetaceans and to implement CENAQ shore-to-ship power connections in Marseille. In 2019, it became the first operator in the world to test and install a sodium bicarbonate particle filter on board the vessel Piana. This technology is now in use across all of the ship’s engines.
These actions have earned the company notable awards, such as the Blue Charter Trophy and the Sustainable Tourism Prize. Now part of the CMA CGM Group, La Méridionale continues to evolve, blending decades of experience with a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation in Mediterranean shipping.

- From Marseille to Corsica: at least 1.5 hours before departure
- From Marseille to Morocco: boarding opens 7 hours before departure, check-in required at least 2 hours before
- From Corsica to Marseille: check-in at the terminal at least 1 hour before departure
- From Morocco to Marseille: be present for boarding no later than 6 hours before departure

La Méridionale Pet Policy
Important: it is strictly forbidden to transport pets of any kind on la Méridionale’s Marseille – Tangier Med route. Choose your vessel wisely when booking.
- No pet of any kind is allowed to access spaces reserved for travelers, to the exception of assistance dogs.
- Depending on the ships and on your destination, you can book a place in the kennel for them or leave them in your vehicle during the crossing.
- For large animals, contact our support team.
Don’t forget your pet’s luggage!
- Remember they’ll need their bowls, water, food, carrier, as well as a coin for the pen in the kennel!
- Your pet must be mentioned on your booking in order to board. Also remember to bring the documents required for your pet’s travel to and stay in Morocco.
Loyalty Program
Currently, La Méridionale doesn’t offer a loyalty program or member card. However, you might apply for the Corsica resident discount if you live on the island.
La Méridionale Luggage Allowance
La Méridionale reminds passengers that only personal belongings are allowed, either with you or inside your vehicle. If you’re traveling without a vehicle, you may bring up to two pieces of luggage and one backpack, as long as they don’t block movement on board. If your bags are bulky, they must be placed in the designated luggage area.
It is not permitted to carry goods, weapons, flammable materials, illegal substances or live animals in your luggage. If such items are found, they may be confiscated and penalties may apply.
The company reserves the right to inspect luggage or vehicles at any time for security reasons.

It also uses shore-to-ship power in Marseille to cut emissions while docked and equips its entire fleet with the REPCET system to help prevent collisions with marine mammals.
