About Maistros Santorini
Maistros Santorini operates under the Santorini Boatmen’s Union (Ένωση Λεμβούχων Σαντορίνης), based on the island of Santorini, and has been active in passenger ferry services since 2015. However, the Union’s presence is part of a much longer maritime tradition deeply rooted in Thera’s history. In the early 20th century, boatmen using traditional “sinka” vessels connected the island’s two main ports, Oia and Fira, transporting people and goods between the island and the outside world. With the rapid growth of tourism in the 1960s, the development of Athinios port as the main hub, and the construction of the cable car, the Union’s role evolved, but its importance remained constant.
Today, the Santorini Boatmen’s Union operates a fleet of 20 modern boats that safely transfer cruise passengers from the ships anchored in the Bay of Fira to shore. Maistros Santorini is an extension of this maritime legacy, operating a single passenger vessel that serves regular routes to lesser-known but culturally rich Cycladic destinations, including Folegandros, Ios, Sikinos, and Anafi.
The service prioritizes safety, reliability, and accessibility, with a particular focus on sustainability. Fuel-efficient practices help protect the delicate marine environment of the Aegean. Staffed by experienced local crews, the Union continues a long-standing nautical heritage, one that unites prehistoric Akrotiri, the sailing ships of past centuries, and today’s fast ferries in a shared commitment to serving the island and its visitors.
