The popular Dodecanese island of Rhodes will soon be making some changes. Don’t worry they are all for the better! There will be improvements made to the port infrastructure as well as the national theatre building.
Marina Expansion and Enhancements
According to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Rhodes will soon have a new and improved marina. The project is budgeted at 150 million euros, would be funded through national and EU resources, and includes a land and sea extension, building upgrades, an increase in capacity to host up to 250 businesses, and an increase in berthing capacity for larger vessels.
During the construction phase, approximately 500 to 800 jobs are expected to open up. Once completed, the marina and corresponding businesses will provide jobs to 1,200-1,500 people.

National Theatre of Rhodes Gets Facelift
Built in 1937, the historic national theater of Rhodes was originally known as ‘Teatro Puccini’. It is a prime example of the international style of architecture, which was developed in the 1920s and 1930s.
Now, this iconic building will get completely revamped using national funds (with a budget of 20 million euro) as well as support by the National Strategic Reference Framework (better known in Greece as ESPA).
This theatre was one of the most modern theaters of its time and was suitable even for opera performances. The last major renovation took place in the 1970s to alter the building’s inner gallery as well as its acoustics. However, since then, there have been some other issues. After this latest renovation is completed, the theatre will be able to draw audiences in for performances all year round.
