Caronte & Tourist S.p.A. is a private navigation company based in Messina, Italy, founded in 2003 through the merger of two historic shipping companies, Calabrian Caronte and Sicilian Tourist Ferry Boat, both of which commenced operations in 1965. For over 50 years, the Group has been connecting Sicily with the mainland—initially bridging Messina and Reggio Calabria—and later expanding its routes to include the Messina–Villa San Giovanni and the Salerno–Messina Motorways of the Sea. Today, the company operates a modern fleet of 25 vessels that serve millions of passengers annually, including connections to Isole Minori and routes extending into Spain. Caronte & Tourist Pet Policy
Caronte & Tourist welcomes pets on board, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for all passengers. To maintain safety and hygiene, the following guidelines must be followed:
- Pets over 10 kg must stay in the ship’s kennel.
- Smaller pets (under 10 kg) can remain in their owner’s carrier but may still require a ship’s kennel if needed.
- All dogs must be leashed and wear a muzzle at all times.
- Pets are not allowed indoors or to roam freely on deck; they must remain in designated areas.
- Service dogs are exempt from kennel requirements.
- A pet ticket is required and must be booked in advance.
- Valid pet documents (passport, health certificate, or service license) are mandatory.
- Pet-friendly cabins (6 available) can be booked for long-distance routes at an additional cost, allowing pets to stay with their owners in the cabin.
The captain has the final authority on pet boarding, and the company is not responsible for pets detained by health authorities or any incidents during transport. Owners are fully responsible for their pets’ safety, hygiene, and behavior throughout the journey.

Caronte & Tourist Luggage Allowance
You can bring up to 20 kg of personal baggage. Extra or oversized luggage might come with an extra charge, so pack accordingly. Business travelers are welcome to carry product samples, as long as everything stays within the 20 kg limit.
Valuables, cash, and important documents should be kept safe in onboard deposit boxes or handed to the Purser. The company is not responsible for lost or stolen items unless reported immediately upon arrival.
