About FRS DFDS
FRS DFDS provides a fast and reliable connection between Spain and Morocco, operating modern ferries across the Strait of Gibraltar. The company offers year-round services on all major routes in the region, including Tarifa–Tangier Ville, Algeciras–Tangier Med, and Algeciras–Ceuta, making it the only ferry operator covering all Strait crossings.
Established in 2000 as FRS Iberia/Maroc, the company became part of the DFDS ferry division in January 2024, combining FRS’s strong regional presence with DFDS’s European shipping expertise. This partnership has enhanced services for both passengers and freight customers throughout the Mediterranean.
FRS DFDS transports over 1.3 million passengers, 280,000 vehicles, and more than 125,000 cargo units annually, offering a vital link between Europe and North Africa. Its fleet of modern, fuel-efficient vessels prioritizes safety, comfort, and sustainability. On board, passengers can enjoy spacious lounges and a range of amenities, making every crossing pleasant whether traveling on foot or by vehicle.
With frequent departures, short crossing times—less than one hour on the Tarifa–Tangier Ville route—and efficient operations, FRS DFDS is a convenient choice for both commuters and tourists looking to cross the Strait of Gibraltar safely and comfortably.

- Tangier Ville – Tarifa: Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure
- Algeciras – Ceuta: Arrive at least 10 minutes before departure

You won’t get paper tickets in advance. Simply show your booking confirmation at the ticket counter and they’ll hand you your boarding passes on the spot.
Vehicles on Board
Bringing a car, camper, motorcycle, or even a bicycle? No problem—vehicles are welcome on board. Make sure to go through the vehicle check area before boarding and follow the local instructions. For prices and space availability, check during booking or reach out to our support team.
Travel Documents
Make sure you have the right documents with you:
- Traveling to Morocco? You’ll need a valid passport. Depending on your nationality, a visa might also be required.
- EU citizens heading to Tangier for a day trip can sometimes use just an ID card, but make sure to contact the ferry company in advance.
- If you qualify for discounts (resident, large family, military, etc.) don’t forget to bring the documents to prove it.
- Vehicle travelers: Have your registration certificate, technical data sheet, valid insurance, and circulation permit ready. If you’re not the owner, you’ll also need a signed authorization and a copy of the owner’s ID.
Border Controls
Traveling between Spain and Morocco? Be ready for border checks:
- When leaving Spain, you’ll go through passport control before boarding.
- On board, Moroccan police will check your passport and you’ll need to hand in a filled-out passenger control form (you’ll get this when you pick up your ticket).
- If you have a vehicle, don’t forget to also complete the D16ter customs form for Moroccan entry.

FRS DFDS Pet Policy
Pets are welcome on FRS DFDS vessels, but a few important rules are in place to keep everyone safe and comfortable. Here’s what you need to know when bringing your furry friend along:
- All pets must travel in a pet carrier provided by the owner. Carriers are required at all times and pets are not allowed inside passenger areas.
- Pets over 10 kg may need to use the ship’s kennel if available. One of the vessels is equipped with kennels for larger pets.
- Smaller pets (under 10 kg) can remain in their owner’s carrier throughout the trip.
- Dogs must always wear a muzzle, collar, and be on a short leash when outside the carrier or kennel.
- Service dogs are allowed inside passenger areas but must follow safety rules (muzzle, leash, collar) and stay with their owner.
- Pets are not allowed to roam freely indoors or on deck.
- Pet owners are responsible for food, water, and the well-being of their pets during the journey.
- A pet ticket may be required—be sure to check during booking or contact support for help.
- All necessary documents (pet passport, health certificate, or service dog certification) must be carried and presented if requested.
Tip: Always check the latest Spanish and Moroccan regulations before you travel to ensure your pet meets all entry requirements.

FRS DFDS does not take responsibility for personal belongings unless they are officially handed over to the Captain for safekeeping. For your peace of mind, keep valuable or important items with you during the journey.
