Mallorca

Balearic Islands · Spain

With an area of 3640 square kilometers, Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands. Offering a wide range of tours for all ages, it welcomes over 12 million visitors yearly. Well-connected with Mainland Spain and the nearby islands of Ibiza and Menorca, ferry tickets to Mallorca are permanently in demand, even during the mild winter season.

Once you arrive on the island, there is no shortage of activities to experience, irrespective of which area you decide to stay in. A car or bike rental further opens up an abundance of possibilities, particularly the chance to discover hidden coves and secluded beaches. However, each municipality of Mallorca has, over the years, gained its own particular fan following. Sóller, while touristic, maintains an old-world-charm, accentuated further by the wooden tramway that runs from the city center, past citrus groves, finally stopping at the port.

Magaluf is Mallorca’s party central. Loud and forever buzzing with energy, the town seems to never sleep. Deià is the polar opposite. A quiet coastal village, its picturesque magnetism has been attracting celebrities and literary figures for decades, from Robert Graves and Anaïs Nin to Richard Branson, Mick Jagger, and Gwyneth Paltrow; many famous names have resided here.

When booking ferry tickets to Mallorca through Ferryscanner, you’ll notice Palma is the most popular port on the island. As the capital, it provides an eccentric mix of excursions. La Seu is an unescapable towering sight in the city. The massive gothic cathedral has had multiple architectural influences. Gaudí worked on it for a couple of years, and it even has an art installation by artist Miquel Barcelo. If Picasso’s ceramic collection is of interest, have a stroll through Es Baluard, a museum of contemporary art. Those in love with antiquities will find the Old Town to be a pleasant surprise. The Arab Baths of Palma are a reminder of Moors having once ruled here. And a cruise on the ‘oldest ship in Spain‘, Rafael Verdera, dating back to 1841, is an exciting adventure. Finally, nothing beats relishing a traditional dish picked up from any of the stalls in the animated Mercado Gastronomico San Juan food market.
